Teaching
My teaching style
I believe in a relaxed, student-centered teaching approach that fosters essential musical skills and a genuine love for music. My courses are tailored to each student's pace and abilities, gradually building their skills in rhythm, pitch accuracy, sight-reading, and musicianship. I aim to cultivate self-driven learners who thrive in both solo practice and ensemble settings, encouraging students to explore beyond the classroom and connect with fellow musicians. My goal is not only to help students achieve present success but to support their long-term growth on a fulfilling musical journey.
In my course, my primary objectives are to help students develop a sense of rhythm, pitch accuracy, sight-reading skills, and musicianship.
Sense of Rhythm
Establishing rhythmic sense is a key focus and one of the first skills I build in my students. I see rhythm as the foundation, much like a cup that holds juice; without it, there’s no structure. Similarly, without rhythm, music loses its coherence and beauty, resulting in a jumbled sound.
Pitch Accuracy
Intonation is a crucial skill. I view pitch accuracy as the quality of the juice within the cup—it defines the beauty of the music and requires both technique and planning. In my course, I introduce scale relationships progressively, helping students develop a strong sense of pitch.
Sight-Reading Ability
I believe that sight-reading, the "language of music," should be cultivated from an early stage. Using progressive teaching methods and specific sight-reading techniques, I make it easy for students to play music from scores. Many of my students become proficient sight-readers, enabling smooth, accurate practice sessions and ensemble performances.
Musicianship
To me, musicianship includes listening skills, adaptability, interpretive abilities, self-discipline, teamwork, a commitment to excellence, and a balanced approach to success and failure. Throughout the course, I guide students to set their own practice routines, encourage them to explore beyond the classroom, and support their participation in orchestras and other ensembles, fostering teamwork with other musicians.
Ensemble
I value both immediate accomplishments and long-term growth. While I work to cultivate young musical talent, I aim to nurture musicians, not merely exam-takers. My focus extends beyond short-term success, guiding students on a fulfilling, sustainable path in music.

Parents and Students Command
Ms Chan (parent)
The teacher is very dedicated to instruction, and the content is presented step-by-step, making it very easy to understand. With the teacher's encouragement, my six-year-old son has become self-motivated to practice the piano. Within two years, he progressed from a beginner level to Grade 4, won a gold award at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, and is now playing first violin in the school orchestra.
Ms Lee (parent)
My child had taken lessons at a music center for four years but remained at a beginner level and was unwilling to practice. However, after switching to Teacher Caleb, his classes became relaxed and easy to understand, and my son started developing a genuine interest in the violin. Within a year, he took the Grade 3 exam and received a distinction.
Angel (student)
Thank you so much, Caleb. I've been learning music since I was young, but I could never get past Grade 5. After studying with Teacher Caleb for three years, I progressed from Grade 5 to Grade 7, then to Grade 8, and am now preparing for the ATCL diploma. I hope to be admitted to a music program in the future.
Peter (student)
Caleb's lessons are very flexible—there are basically no fixed schedules, and we can arrange sessions weekly. Often, we get to learn popular songs that I enjoy, which is perfect for me as I'm preparing for the DSE. Of course, he is very strict about pitch and rhythm, but he always shares his own tips and tricks. After applying those techniques, I feel like I've improved significantly.
What I teach is
to become a musician.
With extensive experience in performance, I understand the requirements of being a professional musician. It’s not just about technique—it’s also about mentality, attitude, understanding, and skills.
Unlike the average Hong Kong music school, our curriculum is not limited to a single textbook or classical music. Students have the opportunity to explore various genres, including pop, jazz, and more. We believe every student is a seedling with unique potential.
Our students typically demonstrate a noticeable difference in technical proficiency compared to those from average local music schools after just one year of study, along with exceptional sight-reading skills.
As a result, over 95% of our students achieve a pass or higher in music exams, and 100% score at least 75 out of 100 points in music competitions.
On average, students develop Grade 2 to 3 abilities within one year, Grade 5 within three years, and Grade 8 within five years, following our structured progression.
